Countdown to Script Frenzy – Part 4: The Frenzy Is Upon Us!

by limebirdlaura

This is the end of my Countdown to Script Frenzy. It will soon be upon us! If you read part 3, you’ll know I still don’t have an idea of what I want to write. Honestly, it kind of scares me to even try to think about it at this point. It’s almost as if I need to go in on April 1st with a clear and calm mind. The calm before the storm so to say.

My best advice now is do not be afraid! Don’t let fear stop you from joining in on Script Frenzy. With free software like Celtx, you don’t have to worry about how to format the script. Brush up on my formatting tips, which are just the basics to any script. There are a lot of screenwriting tips on the Script Frenzy website as well, for some more detailed information.

Think of some of the greatest screenwriters out there – George Lucas, Fancis Ford Coppola, Woody Allen, Oliver Stone …the list could go on and on and on. There was a time in their lives where they had never written a script. If I’m not mistaken, Lucas was the only one out of the handful I’ve listed here that even went to film school to study his art. They could have easily thought, “Eh, maybe I’ll figure the script out tomorrow.” Tomorrow could have turned into next week, next month, or “eventually someday.” And if someday never happens, the world would have missed out on some amazing stories – Star Wars, The Godfather, Annie Hall, and Scarface, just to name a few.

Don’t let that missing story be yours!

I know we all have hectic and busy lives, and that is understandable if there is truly no extra time in the day to devote to a script. But if you do have extra time in the day, well then why not try your hand at a script?  You never know what could happen, it may spawn an idea for a new novel, it may help you work out your novel’s dialogue, as I believe wonderful LimebirdKate said she once used a script for.  You may write the next Star Wars. You never know!

If you do decide to join in on Script Frenzy and madly work your way through 100 pages of fun times, my username is Loupy2055 – feel free to add me! And don’t forget to check out the forum here, where I’m sure a few of us will be sharing the joys and pains of fevered writing through the month of April.

I leave you now with a quote from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix – “Working hard is important. But there is something that matters even more, believing in yourself. Think of it this way; every great wizard in history has started out as nothing more than what we are now, students. If they can do it why not us?”

  1. Ahhh Script Frenzy. I tried it for the first time last year, and it was absolute madness. I essentially procrastinated so much I wrote the whole darn 100 pages in the space of a week, at the end of April. Was jolly good fun! This year I am already tied up to too many other writing projects, but I will certainly return to the Frenzy another year down the track…

    • Ooooo 100 pages in a week, that sounds hectic and fun! I think the most I’ve done is probably around 11 pages in 1 day. I started my NaNo about a week into it and managed to finish so I hope if I procrastinate my time away this go around that I’m able to catch up.
      Thanks for the comment 🙂

  2. A good ending to a very imformative series of posts. Great job!

  3. Good luck with Script Frenzy, Laura. I’ll be rooting for you!

  4. This is great Laura, thank you for taking the time out to write these posts. How exciting that it’s nearly time for you to start! Have you planned already??

    • I have no idea! I like to try to think of what genre I’d do first… I’m thinking about a horror maybe. I might try to actually tackle doing a horror story about my Gran and Pap’s house ..but I’m not entirely sure about that, so don’t hold me to it!
