Merry Friday everyone! The Limebirds take part in the 100 word story challenges set by Julia’s Place every week and this week the prompt is ‘Legacy’. You don’t have to include the prompt words this week, but you have to create a 100 word story from it. If you would like to have a go, scroll down to the bottom for more information.
This week we have myself and Limebirds Kate and Vanessa taking part.

Dear Diary,
I think that this will be the last entry that I’ll make to you. Mum, Dad and the docs just left my room and all Mum did was cry. I’m can’t believe I never got to do all of the things I talked to you about but I’m so tired. I remember in school last year Miss White talked about our legacy and the footprint we were going to leave on the world, but what have I done? Well, that’s it I think. Thanks for listening to me.

LEGACY – A CHARACTER SKETCH
Wide eyes, brown like the water outside his home.
A faded map depicting the route where his father died
His mother’s stories about the tribal cause
White men who stole his sister
Disease and death running rampant in his land
A leaky canoe
A three-legged dog who could sniff out wild turkeys and the enemy
Tattoos red and black
A velvet pouch not to be opened unless faced with death
A gun with four bullets, a bowie knife he kept cutting himself with
He’s chosen not because he’s the one, but because he’s the last one left

Dawn broke. Humala surveyed the scene around him. His people had done well. The red dust that had been stirred up by the landing still hung in the air, apparently motionless. All eyes were on him. He knew that whatever words he spoke now would be marked in history for time eternal. He breathed in and raised himself tall. “My people”, he began. “Yesterday we thought it was the end. Today we know it is just the beginning. Our planet may have died, but we have not. This new planet shall be named ‘Espoir’ meaning ‘hope’. This is our legacy”.
Would you like to have a go at a 100 word story? Well, head on over to Julia’s Place for the rules and either add your offering in the comments, or do your own post, but don’t forget to either link back to us or let us know in the comments so we can come and read!
