Paperclip Award

by limebirdwriters

Well, my week has been brightened a bit, I’ve been nominated for The Paperclip Award! I think this is the first award that I’ve been given just to me, so it feels a bit weird, but thanks so much Victoria !

Paperclip Award

The award comes with some questions for me to answer. Here goes!

1. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was very little I wanted to be a paediatrician, which I’m sure my mum was very excited about. However, I slowly realised that I was pretty pants at science, so writing took hold.

2. What is your ultimate favourite place to be?
(Sorry had to add a ‘u’ there)

At home, in my bed sleeping! In terms of actual places, the best place I have ever ever visited that I love is Banff in BC, Canada.

3. Name one famous person who inspires you. (Just one!!!)

Nelson Mandela, nuff said.

4. Tea or Coffee?
Tea definitely. I love the smell of coffee, but I always end up disappointed when I try it. I usually drink either Mint Tea or decaf though. (Strong, milky and sugary please)

5. If you could be any other person for 48 hours, who would you be?
Jessica Alba, cause I’d like to know what it’s like to be that good looking! #girlcrush

6. What is your earliest memory?
Most of them just involve playing with my mum and lots of laughing.

7. If you could ask anyone in the world, living or dead, anything, who would you ask, and what would you ask them?
Hmm, all of my biological grandparents had sadly passed away before I was 8. I would quite like to be able to just speak to them all, even for a little while.

8. What is the scariest thing you have ever done?
Skydiving! Bloomin’ petrifying.

9. What is your favorite book?
I honestly couldn’t pick one, but recently I LOVED The Hunger Games.

10. Briefly explain one of the weirdest dreams you have ever had.
I suffer quite badly from night terrors, which include spiders crawling over me, scary faces right in my face, being strangled, snakes attacking me, being covered in blood etc. So… I would say those, haha.

11. What one song best describes you? (Feel free to post a link to a Youtube vid)
Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls. I love this song and it’s followed me everywhere and it reminds most people of me.

12. Pen or pencil?
Hmm, tough one. I use a pen more regularly, but sometimes I just love writing in pencil.

13. Is 13 an unlucky number or not?
No, I don’t think so.

Anyhoo, I’m not really sure of the procedure of passing this on is, or whatever, but I shall pick our top 5 commenters on the blog!

  1. Hey Beth! Congrats on your award. I just learned so much about you lol. Interesting expression: “pretty pants at science”. Now that’s a new one for me! I guess that means science ain’t your thang? šŸ™‚

I feel awful that you suffer from night terrors. That must be pure hell.
I love Iris, too. Cool video! And I can’t believe you’ve been skydiving. You’re very brave.

Thanks for the award, too. Some of those questions are hard, I think. I’m going to have to do some mulling…

    • Haha thanks Kate! Yep, it does indeed. I think you should start using it. “That’s pants” has the same effect, or simply “Oh pants” instead of “oh ****” haha!

Yeah the night terrors aren’t fun. šŸ˜¦ I’m glad you like Iris, I LOVE the GGD! Haha, well I bought it for Aaron for his bday but it was absolutely amasing!!

You’re welcome, I’m looking forward to your answers! šŸ™‚

  2. Can’t go with the American U-less favorite, huh? Ha, you’re so English! šŸ˜‰

  3. Hi Beth, Congrats on getting the award. I’ve never heard of the paperclip award…. Seems interesting and fun. How nice that you were awarded it. I love finding out those little tid bits about people. Those are the details you never find out about someone, but help you to get to know them better.

    Again, Congrats!

  4. Thanks Beth! I’m with Kate, liking the “pants”, I love the new terms I’m learning here!

Also, pretty random, but I never realized how often the American spelling of a lot of words use “z” and the British spelling uses “s”. Like realised vs. realized. I wonder why we went and added a bunch of z’s everywhere! Anyway I digress…

I do love being home in bed too! And I’m sorry you have night terrors, that’s so sad šŸ˜¦

    • Haha, I’m glad to pass on some wonderful terms! šŸ˜› I’ll think up some more!

Yeah, well you guys are so stubborn, having to change the correct spellings to the incorrect spelling! šŸ˜› Like stealing our u’s and adding random z’s everywhere! Oh, and pronouncing things weirdly, like aluminum and tomato.. hehe.

Aww, yeah it’s rubbish šŸ˜¦ Thanks for commenting!

      • How do you say aluminum and tomato? I didn’t know we said them funny, but I’m from the south US, and we say EVERYTHING funny here! Half the things I say my hubby has no clue what’s coming out of my mouth HAHA.

I say uh-loo-min-um for aluminum and toe-may-toe for tomato. I think accents and things are interesting, funny how they change and stuff.

      • Haha, yeah you say them funny! I prounounce aluminium ah-loo-min-ee-um and tom-ahh-tow for tomato! haha!! Yeah, it is rather strange. Even in the UK, there’s a lot of different pronounciations!

  5. Hooray for you, Beth! Many congratulations on this award. And your answers are so informative — I know you much better now than I did only 1/2 hour ago. Way to go, girl!! šŸ˜Ž I have night terrors, too — absolutely the opposite of a good night’s sleep. I’m sorry to hear that we share that trait.

  6. This first award you’ve ever been given as an individual?

*goes down into machine-shop basement to churn out a million different personalized award statues that say “Beth”*

I’ll start by giving you a Most Patient Friend of the Week Award. Here it is, you can’t see it but it’s all sparkly and shiny.

    • Yep! All others have been for all the other Limebird Writers. I think LimebirdKate got one of her own too! šŸ™‚

Haha, aw thanks, I’ll put them up on my mantlepiece. (not that I have one.. but you know what I mean!)

      You’re welcome love, any time.

  7. Thank you for passing it on and I’m very pleased you get to enjoy this one all by yourself what with limebirds being very much your labour of love. Hm, I haven’t had night terrors for a while now – probably has something to do with having been off work on maternity leave, thus eliminating all stress from my life. I bet those wasps and little boxes are just waiting to come back when I return in a couple of weeks!

  8. Ooo congratulations! Its always lovely receiving an award.
    Loving your answers too.

  9. My daughter had night terrors when she was about 3, and did sleepwalking with it too! SO scary. Thank heavens she grew out of it. Sorry to hear you’re affected by it.
What a nice award, and it is well deserved – I mean, look at what you’ve done here!
Thank you for mentioning my blog, it’s always fun to have limebird readers stop by šŸ™‚

  10. PS: LOVED that video too!

  11. It’s always fun finding out random facts about someone! I can relate on the skydiving, I did it once too and agree that it was absolutely terrifying. I’ll never forget that feeling when you’re going up in the plane and you know you have to get to 10,000 ft, and they count you up “We’re now at 2,000 ft…we’re now at 3,000 ft…” You’re like “Please shut-up, I don’t want to know! Just shove me out of the plane when it’s time ok?”.

    • Haha! Where did you do it Vanessa?

      • Headcorn in Kent. I have a video and photos of me doing it too. I did a tandem jump, is that what you did? Our parachute had been packed wrong and the cords were all tangled up when it opened, so it didn’t open properly. The guy managed to sort it out (obviously, as I’m here to tell the tale!), but I think even he was worried for a few seconds. You can see it tangled on the photos. That probably added to my “Never again!” feeling, hehe.

  12. Congratulations, Beth! I’m with you on the tea. As much as I love the smell of coffee and could certainly use the extra jolt of caffeine, I just can’t tolerate the taste – but I can drink tea anytime!
